Ghanaian Fashion: Presenting Sika Designs

With  London Fashion week gone I thought it would be more than relevant to showcase the talented Sika designs. Ghanaians have managed to create a presence in the fashion industry thanks to the likes of Ozwald Boateng , N’kya designs, Adjoa Osei and many more designers, but now Me FiRi Ghana Introduces Sika Designs to you…

Profile: Sika Designs

It all started in 2006 when the 33 year old Phyllis Taylor born in the UK to Ghanaian parents birthed Sika desings. From an early age, she adored colors, prints and anything that stood out especially from Ghana Phyllis loved the colourful prints of West African clothing; especially from her native Ghana. She originally studied performing arts and music but she dreamed of seeing the excitement and life in traditional dresses and garments. She studied a course in dressmaking and pattern cutting at the London College of Fashion from where a trip to Ghana ensued and the rest as they say is history.

The fashion Line is based in the UK with 12 working in Ghana and 3 in the UK. A great aspect I love about Sika is their interest in ethical status ensuring products and materials are sourced from local traders made in Ghana (Amazing!). This helps the growth of business back home ensuring stability for businesses. We would like to say congratulations to Skia Designs for being awarded the Ethical fashion forum (EFF) innovation project award.
