GUBA AWARDS 2017 NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

The anticipated launch of the GUBA 2017 Awards took place on Monday the 10th of April 2017 at the Ghana High Commission in Highgate, London.

The launch which serves as a precursor to the official awards ceremony scheduled to take place on Saturday 3rd of June, 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel, o2, London – served as an official declaration and announcement of the shortlisted nominees for the GUBA 2017 Awards.  

Voting for the nominees of the respective categories commences on Wednesday the 12th of April, 2017, via www.gubaawards.co.uk/voting/#.  Tickets for the awards are also available to purchase at www.gubaawards.co.uk

The final phase of elimination for the Made in Ghana, Professional of the Year and Charity of the Year categories takes place at midnight, on Thursday the 20th of April 2017.   Nominees for the aforementioned categories will be condensed to 4 nominees and announced at the GUBA Ghana Launch on the 21st of April, 2017 at the British High Commissioner’s residence.

Voting ends on the 30th of April 2017, with the winners being announced at the main event in London on Saturday 3rd June 2017. The categories and nominees for the GUBA Awards 2017 are as follows:

The Future of Ghana 2017 – The Search for Ghana’s Top 30 U30 begins…

Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation (Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary General)

In less than 3 generations 41% of the world’s youth will be African”, “By 2035, Africa’s labour force will be larger than China’s” (Mo Ibrahim Foundation)

It was the above statements amongst others that were the catalyst behind the creation of the Future of Ghana initiative in October 2014. A time to celebrate, mobilize and invest in young people of Ghanaian heritage around the world on an annual basis at a critical time in Africa’s growth.

fog-publication-2016-coverNow in its 3rd cycle Me FiRi Ghana once again begin a mission to find the pioneers and innovators of the Future through the first objective of the Future of Ghana initiative by undertaking a global search for the top 30 Ghanaian talent aged 18 – 30 years – impacting industries around the world. The search will consist of an open nomination process driven through Ghanaian Diplomatic missions, Ghanaian Associations/Organisations, Commonwealth secretariat, media partners and social media using the official hashtag #FOG2017

Nominations for Future of Ghana 2017 are NOW OPEN to the public until 2 December 2016 via the website. Once closed nominees will be whittled down to a top 30 by a select judging panel, and featured in our annual online publication to be released in March 2017.

This cycle’s esteemed judging panel will be revealed in the week commencing 21 November 2016 so look out for the announcements across our platforms. Previous judges include Dentaa Amoateng MBE, Andy Ansah, Ethel Cofie and Isaac Babu-Boateng amongst others.

The initiative has been endorsed by the Ghanaian High Commission UK and British High Commission in Accra. Who both recognize its merits for capacity building and future prosperity of Ghana. ABN TV honours Dentaa Amoateng MBE

Glowing tributes poured in from stars, family and friends at an intimate event organised by ABN TV, ABN Radio, Shipley Global Services and Christian Gottfried & Co Solicitors, for GUBA CEO – Dentaa Amoateng MBE on Thursday, 14th July 2016 in London. The event was in celebration of her appointment by Her Majesty the Queen as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The founder of GUBA Awards was among a privileged group of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom, whose achievements in diverse fields were celebrated in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2016. The award recognised her work in advancing relations between the United Kingdom and the African diaspora through her GUBA Enterprise that comprises of the GUBA Awards, the GUBA Foundation, GUBA Expo and the GUBA Careers Fair.

In her speech, Dentaa said the award is a reminder of the importance of following one’s dream and working hard to execute it daily.

“I am very delighted to be here in front of you all today. You all represent the reason why I am who I am and why GUBA has become a household name. The continued support and love that you continue to show me, my organisation and my family is beyond measure. I take this moment to say thank you! Thank you for the continuous encouragement, the business opportunities, the partnerships and most of all, for believing in me and in the dream. This MBE is an accolade I could have never imagined and I vow to work even harder towards the advancement of our people. I cannot thank my awesome team and family enough.”, she added.
