Why the Future of Ghana…

In less than 3 generations 41% of the world’s youth will be African”, “By 2035, Africa’s labour force will be larger than China’s” (Mo Ibrahim Foundation)…

Thus we believe now is time to celebrate, mobilize and invest in young people of Ghanaian heritage at a critical time in Africa’s growth.

Who are Ghana’s Future leaders? Who are the young people out there innovating and creating change? …… It’s about time we found out!

Award winning London based company Me FiRi Ghana are on a mission to find the pioneers and innovators of the Future by launching the Future of Ghana campaign.

The main objective of the campaign is to organize and mobilize Ghanaian talent for the development of Ghana by undertaking a global search for the top 30 Ghanaian talent aged 18 – 30 years – impacting industries around the world. The search will consist of an open nomination process driven through social media, media partners and using the official hashtag #FutureofGhana with the top 30 being featured in online publication. The secondary objective will be to stage a “Dragon’s Den” style competition in Ghana for budding entrepreneurs and small/medium size business owners hoping to expand.

Nominations for the Future of Ghana are now open to the public until 17 December 2014 via the website. Once closed nominees will be whittled down to a top 30 by a select judging panel, ready for the publication release in March 2015. The esteemed judging panel will be revealed the week commencing 1 December 2014 so look out for updates on twitter.

The campaign has been endorsed by Ghanaian High Commissioner to the UK H.E Victor Emmanuel Smith. He has pledged his commitment to the campaign by agreeing to host a luncheon with a select number of the top 30 pioneers in the spring of 2015.

Future of Ghana Patron and pioneering photographer James Barnor says of the initiative;

“I am privileged to be chosen as patron for the Future of Ghana initiative. It is refreshing to see young Ghanaians in the Diaspora so forward thinking and genuinely passionate about our nation’s future. This initiative will mobilize and inspire a generation of Ghanaians to come together and utilize their skills for the development of Ghana. I can see history in the making. For that reason I am more than happy to be involved”

Let’s make history!

At 12:00 GMT Tuesday 10th June we launched our World cup social media campaign we believe can be the envy the world over. There has been months of strategizing how best we can execute the campaign and now the time has come to execute with excellence. The word is we are trending in the US with our hashtag #LetsGoalGhana during yesterday afternoons activities, visibly irking the Americans and that’s what it’s all about making impact!

But why the campaign? …Simply we were inspired to create this campaign because of the exploits of the Ghana team at the last world cup and the affect their success had on all of us. We wanted to make sure this time around all that emotion be it agony and ecstacy was captured, recorded and made accessible for everybody and anybody to tap into..

The objective of the campaign is to create a social media phenomenon, by owning defining moments and conversations relating to the World Cup. We also want to unite, showcase and share the passion of the global Ghanaian community. During this time we want to make Ghana accessible for everyone not just Ghanaians. The campaign will pay particular attention to audiences in the UK, USA, Ghana and Canada within the 18-35 Age demographic.

The campaign will be executed by utilising our social media platforms (Twitter,Facebook & Instagram) as well as our blog posting proactive and reactive content throughout the World Cup using the hash tag #LetsGoalGhana. Our Media partners who include; OMG Ghana, GUBA, Benny Bonsu, Ameyaw Debrah, Goal.com (Ghana) and MyGhanaRoots will be working alongside us to create a unique online experience.

A world cup toolkit consisting of a selection of exclusive images (created by Me Firi Ghana’s Creative Director Samuel Mensah) will be available for downloaded from 12 June 2014 on our website. These images can be uploaded to various platforms to allow you to get involved and engage with the campaign. Don’t forget fans can also purchase official merchandise and original products via our website.

 Lets Goal Ghana media partner/Ambassador Benny Bonsu said of the campaign;

As a true Ghanaian, my focus this summer is to stay a TRUE GHANAIAN. Our culture, our people and our history show a group of people who are aspirational. This World Cup will be the same. Aspiring to be an inspiration not only to Ghanaians, but to the rest of the world. I am extremely happy to be part of and support the #LetsGoalGhana campaign by #MefiriGhana simply because; it represents a new inspirational Africa. Not just Ghana.”

Now its on you to make the campaign what you want it to be. It has already started impressively and it has the potential to become a worldwide phenomenon. However you want to use the tools of the campaign is up to you but remember whatever you do make sure you do it to inspire, inform and unite not just a generation of Ghanaians but global community of people to love and beauty of Ghanaian culture.

I’m really excited are you? In the Black stars we trust! #LetsGoalGhana !

ameyaw_debrah

At 32 years of age, Ameyaw Debrah is already a mainstay in the journalism and social media sectors in Ghana, he garners the kind of respect in this field more akin to a veteran over his half age . His potential shone through early when he won the award for best publishing student whilst studying at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2005.

The award provided a platform for Debrah to work with Ovation International Magazine whilst striking an agreement with the NSS (National Service Scheme) doing his national service. After his service he stayed on at Ovation and began contributing to the Star Newspaper as a columnist.

In 2007 Debrah became the entertainment editor for Ghanaweb and was in this position until 2009 when he decided to create his own website. Since its inception the sit has gone from strength to strength and has solidified Debrah as among the top celebrity/entertainment news bloggers in Ghana. His work has taken him all over the world to cover events  where he has interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment and beyond such  as Kofi Annan, Belle Rose, Trey Songz, Amber Rose, Ludacris, Coptic, Wyclef, Mario. He has gained recognition from the Ghanaian diaspora in the UK when he was nominated for a GUBA in 2012

Debrah has also been active in the television industry in Ghana. He contributes to Star Gist, an entertainment segment on AfricaMagic show that airs on the satellite channel DSTV, as a Skype correspondent. He also shares entertainment news Ghana. on EbonyLife TV an entertainment segment show which also airs on DSTV station.

In 2013 he won the Ghana Social Media Awards for Best Showbiz and Entertainment Blog; and the City People Entertainment Awards for Best Blogger or online reporter (Ghana).

Debrah has turned the dream that manifested at University into reality and continues to be a positive personality in Ghana,He is a Malta Guinness Ambassador deal for the Africa Rising Campaign and also created another campaign, his own called my Ghana campaign in which he invites his readers to create one minute videos discussing relevant issues in Ghana

 A definite pioneer in his field, Ameyaw Debrah, Me Firi Ghana salutes you!

 Me Firi Ghana recently caught up with the celebrity blogger himself  far a brief interview, see below for how it went;

MFG: What made you want to start your very own website: ameyawdebrah.com?

AD: It was actually a joke. my friend offered to get me my own domain and host for me so we jokingly said lets call it ameyawdebrah.com but once I started providing content on it, it caught on and I stuck with it to build it.

MFG: You seem like a thick-skinned person, even in the face of criticisms or unwanted attention. How do you personally deal with pressures that come with being in the spotlight yourself?

AD: I’m naturally a shy person so I surprise myself with how I’m able to cope with the public attention – good or bad. I have a good sense of humour so I use that to escape some of the criticism and I’ am my own worst critic, so people can hardly bring me down. I try to be cheerful when people give me attention and I’m a pleasant person so I just wear a smile, give a handshake or a hug and I’m done. Lol

MFG:D o you still get starstruck when interviewing celebrities?

I no longer have any nervousness when I meet or interview celebs (well it depends on the celebrity lol). Most of the time I worry more about what to ask in order to make my interviews stand out and interesting.

MFG: What do you like the most about being a Ghanaian?

AD: I like being a Ghanaian because I find myself in a unique space that is constantly growing with global trends, and I’m particularly happy to be seen as contributing to some of these trends.

MFG: In the past you introduced an Iphone app ‘AmeyawBuzz’; in 2012, you formed ‘The Ameyaw Debrah talent hunt’. Now in 2014, is there anything you are definitely aiming to accomplish, that we should be in the lookout for?

AD: This year ameyawdebrah.com is 5 years and I’m innovating with new ideas to celebrate people who have been with me along the journey. I plan to have new and more exciting apps to embody the work I do and new technologies. I want to form new partnerships, travel more and see what is happening particularly in other countries of Africa. I have launched the myghanacampaign calling for people to send in short videos sharing their stories about Ghana. I plan to reward about 10 of the best stories by the end of the year.
