Senior representatives from Vodafone Business Solutions and the Bank of Ghana are confirmed to attend the inaugural Tech in Ghana Conference (TIGC) being held in London later this month.
First Deputy Governor of the BoG, Millicent Narh, and Angela Mensah-Poku, Director of Enterprise Business Unit & Wholesale – the business arm of Vodafone Ghana, will be among the speakers at the conference – which is fast becoming London’s premier platform to showcase Ghana’s Tech industry.
Vodafone Ghana’s Mobile Financial Services Director, Martison Obeng–Agyei, will also join a panel alongside World Remit CEO Ismail Ahmed, Interpay founder Saqib Nazir, Zeepay founder & CEO Andrew Takyi-Appiah, and CEO of expressPay Curtis Vanderpuije, to discuss Ghana’s nascent but fast-rising fintech industry.
‘We are proud to be an integral part of the first Tech in Ghana Conference in the United Kingdom,’ Angela Mensah-Poku says. ‘With technology dictating the pace of everything under the sun, this conference could not have come at a more opportune time. Ghana has a plethora of innovative solutions that are yearning for global visibility and now is the time.’
Organised by AB2020, the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) and TEDxAccra, with support from the Department for International Trade (DIT) and Tech London Advocates, TIGC London will take place on Monday 27th February; exactly a week before Ghana marks its 60th year of independence. BoG also celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, and is a key regulator in Ghana’s tech industry.
Other recently confirmed attendees include Tom Ilube, founder of the African Gifted Foundation, which in 2016 opened the African Science Academy, Africa’s first STEM school for gifted and talented young women in Ghana. In 2017, Tom was named Britain’s most infuential person of African and African-Caribbean descent by the UK Powerlist.
The UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Ghana Adam Afriyie is to give an opening keynote at the event, which will also feature a Ghana tech initiatives showcase, and exclusive backstage interviews courtesy of TIGC production partners TEDxAccra.
Emmanuel Leslie Addae, curator of TEDxAccra says: ‘The advancement of technology has created a huge platform for economic, social and cultural growth in Ghana and Africa as a whole. If industry players are able to discover tailor made solutions to challenges specific to Africa this will propel the rise of the continent. I’m excited about this conference because it serves as a conduit for the curation of strategic ideas in technology and will highlight some of the technological advancements in Ghana.’

An attempt will be made to break the current Guinness world for longest table while 5,000 vulnerable children and the elderly will be fed, inspired and supported. Through this project the public will be educated on the environmental and economic impact of food wastage in Ghana.
Food for All Ghana is a shared social responsibility. Hope to see you there!
Their ascent has been rapid; the waves made over the course of the last few years imperious in magnitude. Having exploded onto the scene in 2013, this eclectic team of four incredibly-talented young Ghanaian musicians have become the standard in urban music live acoustics and instrumentalism. Charlie, Nana, Stephen and David have supported Nigerian music behemoth Wizkid and Ghana’s finest rapper Sarkodie, as well as regularly collaborating with Fuze ODG to name a few. In 2016 alone they have had the pleasure of performing on the same ticket as rap royalty Lauryn Hill and have rubbed shoulders with legitimate royalty in Prince Harry.

Uncle John’s Bakery is delighted to announce the opening of its new store, larger premises and new baking unit. The launch will last all week beginning July 11- July 16 and all members of the Ghanaian community are invited to sample the delights and celebrate the grand opening with us. The Bakery will continue to offer freshly baked bread, cakes and snacks from their new facilities to distributors, independent stores, supermarkets and to loyal consumers who purchase in store. “As the original family baker of Ghanaian sweet bread and other baked goods, our mission is to continue to deliver you fresh, authentic Ghanaian baked goods that bring you the home from home experience wherever you are in the world”, said managing director Sam Mensah.
The company was established 20 years ago and is a family business at heart. Many Ghanaians would have grown up enjoying Uncle John’s delicious sweet bread and our constant mission has been to help Ghanaians feel closer to home. Within 3 years of operating the enterprise had outgrown a small shared baking unit and found a site in North London where we still baked onsite up until the recent expansion.
“Our new facilities will give us the space to increase our work flow, which will also give us the space for bigger machines. This will aid us in automating parts of production and enable us to cut costs. We have outgrown our old premises. With more space, the new premises will allow us to stock more products, fulfil larger orders, and ultimately share our special products with new and exciting customers” stated Mensah.
We invite you to join us at the launch. Many of you would have grown up enjoying our products and this is a fantastic opportunity to come and see just how much we’ve been able to grow in our 20 years of operating. We feel immense pride in the journey and how far we’ve come, and want the African community to feel a sense of this pride with us and join in the celebration. Without your help, support and custom over the years our success wouldn’t have been possible so we want to say thank you!
The look of the new store has been modelled on that of a trendy, boutique coffee shop. It’s our belief that African food is under-represented in retail outlets and on menus and it’s our mission to increase its prominence. African food can penetrate the mainstream, and we want to be the pioneers of the movement. Our new upscale, trendy shop will help to shift attitudes towards African cuisine and make this possible. To celebrate this Uncle John’s are providing coffee for the first 30 customers each day, discounts on products, free samples, the first opportunity to taste new product lines and are running a raffle. So do pop in for some lunch or stop by for your morning coffee and get an authentic taste of Ghana right on your doorstep!
